When it comes to audio-video products, we’re  spoilt for choice. But buying ready-made packages isn’t always the best idea. Hi-fi enthusiasts are used to cherry-picking individual components and assembling their dream sound systems. To help you put together your own combos of stereo systems and home theatre set-ups, our friends at AV MAX magazine have some suggestions that don’t cost the earth.

Onkyo’s Swashbuckler is a smash hit of a home theatre setup. With great speakers, an even greater receiver, it blends seamlessly with Samsung’s stylish Pebble (F1080), an upscaling DVD player. Sony’s S Series 26”LCD TV completes the mix.

Samsung DVD-F1080 Rs 5,900  +  Onkyo Swashbuckler Rs 24,990 (DVD Player) + Sony S Series 26” Rs 32,900= Rs 63,790

I am amazed to see how most people choose their audio systems. In the 1980s the Sony KV2032ME TV and Nation NV-340 VHS recorder were a popular combination. Many people in my society went out and bought this set because their neighbour had it. Tsk. Tsk. There's much more to choosing AV products than neighbour's envy, owner's pride.
