Axis of Upheaval
Nilesh Shah, Deputy MD, ICICI Prudential AMC and Shikha Sharma were the strongest gen-next leaders built up by Kalpana Morparia at ICICI before she moved to JP Morgan last year. When Ms. Sharma also moved a few months ago to Axis, many thought Shah would follow.
Rumour had it that he did in fact put in his papers (whether it was to join Axis or not isn’t clear), but was persuaded to stay. Which, frankly, surprised us. Little birds tell us, he wants to change his fund management strategy, but his hands are tied.
Informed friends at Axis Bank tell us water cooler pundits there are dead sure Shah is indeed on his way to Axis. Nope, not to head the AMC. Ms. Sharma, they say, has a bundle of world domination plans and her trusted buddy is tipped off to head one of them, if not more. We asked him, of course. Gentleman that he is, he immediately SMSed back: “Those are rumours circulating since the last three months. Hopefully it will die in its due course.” Yup. Rumours die eventually. Hope, however, floats.
