Why just focus on universities which are based on scarcity economics?
Just look what Khan Academy is doing, Also Prof Thrun, world renowned AI Expert, left Stanford to start free online learning startup Udacity. MIT is going to launch MITx platform which combines free interactive online learning with alternative credentials for assessment.
Why can't this be done in India? Move beyond university model for skills enhancement. I don't think India's education and skills issues can be solved by conventional school-university system.
We need disruptive innovation.
Another innovation at workplace is ending of human rentals. In a networked society, people will stop working for corporations and form adhoc networks to earn, crowdsource efforts, crowdfund ventures. This will need lifelong learning and credentialing which will make conventional university system irrelevant.
So innovation beyond conventional university-industry thinking is needed.
