India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has rung in the new year with the launch of its much-awaited hatchback Ignis for the millennial buyers. While the petrol version will be available at Rs 4.59 lakh-6.69 lakh, the diesel variant will cost anywhere between Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.80 lakh, respectively.
Ignis will be sold from the company’s premium automotive retail showrooms Nexa and is expected to compete with some of the well established brands in the market. It is the third brand to be launched in the Nexa outlets. The other premium hatchbacks available in the Nexa showrooms are Baleno and cross-over utility vehicle S-Cross. As per current estimates, vehicles that are sold through the Nexa outlets constitute as much as 10% of Maruti Suzuki’s total sales.

Ignis is built on a new generation rigid platform embodying Suzuki Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) for occupant protection. The Company, along with its suppliers, has invested over Rs 950 crore towards development of Ignis. Ignis comes with 98.5% localisation.
