T

he diameters of the bubbles to the bottom represent the number of drugs in mid-to latestage development for seven important disease categories; their height from the bottom of the page corresponds to those drugs’ projected revenues in 2016. Deadlier diseases are positioned farther to the right. “The total cost of the disease is the driving factor, not just the number of deaths,” says Pratap Khedkar of health care consultancy ZS Associates.
