Back to the ‘80s
TDK is revisiting the past with a line of high-end audio products, one of which is the Three Speaker Boombox, akin to an ’80s ghetto blaster. This portable powerhouse is a little under two feet high, with a 30-pin cable, audio connectors and a tray at the top to rest your player in. A spectrum analyser dances when the music plays. It has its own digital to analogue converter which gives improved quality sound through the two six-inch mid and treble drivers and matching woofer. The boombox has a padded aluminium handle and a smoked acrylic finish that gives a “dead front” effect when turned off, with the buttons and screen appearing to disappear. There is also a Two Speaker Boombox. Also in the new range are a belt-drive turntable (Rs. 22,000), headphones (Rs. 18,000) and a micro system. Finally, there’s a small but perfectly formed desktop speaker called the Soundcube (Rs. 22,000).

The lens on the 12.1-meg/1080 video Casio Exilim Tryx is attached to the screen, and rotates through 270 degrees. Then the frame itself can be moved through a full 360 degrees, so you can take self portraits while seeing what’s on the screen, prop the camera up on the frame to serve as its own tripod on flat surfaces at any rate and angle it any way you see fit. You can also clip it onto your shirt pocket for recording hands-free action movies with a point of view not dissimilar to a first person shooter video game. The HDR ART function then adds effects. It’s also only 14.9 mm thick, hardly surprising after all that yoga.
