The world’s first electronic stock market, the National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (Nasdaq), was initially a quotation system. Its 10-storey high LED video cladding—the first of its kind, installed in 1996 for $37 million—has become a representative image of Times Square. The 10,800-sq ft display has more than 18 million LEDs and eight screens that function simultaneously; they are operated by 800 digital switching power supplies. Put together, it is like a giant curved television screen, with a 170-degree viewing angle
